YOUR NEIGHBOURS HAVE BEEN CALLING US SINCE 1977

AKKO Ltd. has been a trusted name in Southwestern Ontario since 1977. Based in Strathroy and Springfield, we have grown from a small family operation into a crew of 15 to 18 dedicated tradespeople, most of whom call Strathroy home.

Now under second-generation ownership with Chris Bakker at the helm, we carry the same values that built this company: honest work, fair pricing, and craftsmanship that stands the test of time. We are proud to be actively involved in the communities we serve.

When you call AKKO, you are calling a neighbour, not a call centre.

Questions
GOOD QUESTIONS DESERVE STRAIGHT ANSWERS
How much does concrete work cost in London Ontario?
+

Costs vary depending on the project type, size, and finish. As a rough guide: concrete driveways typically range from $8 to $15 per square foot, patios and walkways are similar, and decorative finishes like stamped or exposed aggregate run $12 to $20 per square foot. Pool surrounds are priced based on size and shape. We provide free, detailed written estimates so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins.

Is concrete or asphalt better for a driveway in Ontario?
+

Both have their place, but concrete generally outperforms asphalt for longevity and aesthetics. Concrete driveways typically last 30 to 50 years with minimal maintenance, compared to 15 to 20 years for asphalt which also requires periodic sealing. In Ontario's freeze-thaw climate, a properly installed concrete driveway with the right mix and reinforcement is a smart long-term investment.

Does stamped concrete crack in cold weather?
+

All concrete can develop minor cracks over time, especially in Ontario's freeze-thaw climate. However, when stamped concrete is properly installed with the right concrete mix, adequate thickness, proper reinforcement, and control joints, cracking is minimized significantly. AKKO has been working in Southwestern Ontario since 1977 and our installations are built specifically to handle local weather conditions.

Do I need a permit for a concrete driveway in London Ontario?
+

In most cases, a standard residential driveway replacement does not require a permit in London Ontario. However, if you are widening your driveway, adding a new curb cut, or doing work that affects the boulevard or city property, a permit may be required. We can advise you on this during your free estimate.

How long does a concrete project take from start to finish?
+

Most residential driveways and patios are completed in 1 to 3 days of active work. After the concrete is poured, it needs 24 to 48 hours before light foot traffic and 7 days before vehicle use. We will walk you through the full timeline during your estimate so you can plan accordingly.

Can you use salt or de-icers on a concrete driveway in Ontario?
+

We recommend avoiding rock salt and chemical de-icers on concrete driveways, especially in the first winter after installation. These products can accelerate surface scaling and damage the finish over time. Sand is a safer alternative for traction, and a quality concrete sealer applied annually will help protect your surface through Ontario winters.

What is the difference between exposed aggregate and stamped concrete?
+

Exposed aggregate is created by washing away the top layer of concrete to reveal the natural stone and pebbles within the mix, giving a textured, slip-resistant finish. Stamped concrete uses moulds pressed into the surface to mimic patterns like brick, slate, or stone, and can be coloured for a more decorative look. Both are durable options and we can show you samples during your estimate.
